Dr Kareeshma Naville Wadia is a well-known Cornea Specialist in Mumbai. She completed her Medical education (MBBS) from Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Pune, and went on to pursue her Post Graduation (D.N.B.) in Ophthalmology from the prestigious Bombay City Eye Institute, Mumbai. She then pursued her Fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the world-renowned Narayana Nethralaya Eye Hospital, Bengaluru.

During her training itself, Dr. Kareeshma had the opportunity to contribute to two chapters in the textbook “Spectral-domain Optical Coherence Tomography Imaging of the Eye”. She is currently THE HONOURABLE SECRETARY OF THE BOMBAY OPHTHALMOLOGISTS’ ASSOCIATION for 2024-25 and was the Joint Secretary for 2023-24

Dr Kareeshma’s areas of interest are Cataract, Cornea, and Refractive Laser Surgery. Keratoconus is her personal favorite area of interest and also happens to be her thesis right since post-graduation. She has participated in molecular-level studies for patients of Keratoconus. She has performed around 7,000 surgeries which range from LASIK, ICL, PRK, Phacoemulsification Cataract Surgery, Keratoconus lasers, and Corneal Tear repairs. As a Cornea specialist, Dr. Kareeshma Wadia takes a keen interest in Corneal Transplants and specializes in advanced lamellar corneal surgeries called DSAEK and DALK to help restore vision and reduce blindness. During her training, she was a part of multiple social and charitable camps and has traveled extensively to interior Gujarat and Bihar for surgical cataract camps to treat the underprivileged. Dr. Kareeshma Wadia's elder brother Jehan Wadia was devoted and caring. However, he left for his heavenly abode on the 1st of December 2002, at the young age of 20 years.

Dr. Kareeshma was pursuing her medical education at the time, so she was deeply affected by the loss of her brother.

But in life, he only spread happiness even after he was no more. Because of his family's decision to donate his eyes, his pristine healthy corneas were given to two individuals, who probably are leading a better life and blessing him for the same.

Dr. Kareeshma was inspired by this to try to help everyone who was having vision problems, particularly the many individuals in our nation who had treatable corneal blindness.
